MARY EDITH SACK (1969-2024)

Mary Edith Sack passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at the age of 55, in Nashville, Tennessee, the city she loved deeply and called home for over 25 years. A proud Maryland native, Mary graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communication/Public Relations in 1991.

Before going out on her own, Mary made a name for herself in her work with Relentless Nashville, Pat Boone's The Gold Label, Naxos of America, Rising Tide, and Capricorn Records. She created Mary Sack Management in 2002 to spotlight lauded recording artists and authors with original material, including David Olney, Scott Miller, and Irene Kelley. Mary was ubiquitous throughout the Americana and Folk music scenes around the world. Two of her most cherished events were within the Nashville community; one was concert director for the Shakespeare Festival, and the other was the organizer of the annual (18 years running) Get Behind the Mule: Tom Waits Tribute & Benefit to raise funds for Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. Both were year-long efforts of connecting dots and people to make them wonderful and successful.

Mary lived her life fearlessly and passionately. She climbed Huayna Picchu on her own when others didn’t even try and, recently, the 200+ steps of the New Jersey Absecon Lighthouse while fighting advanced lung cancer. Her love of water – from the Cumberland River to the Pacific Ocean – always gave her energy and peace of mind; she would tell you why she moved to the west of Nashville; “to be near the water.” She could be seen walking her dogs along the banks or enjoying the view at the local Blue Moon Grille overlooking the Cumberland River.

Equally notable, Mary was always on the lookout for unique, hand-picked gifts to give to her family and friends, along with her creative handwritten notes. She lived to lift others up and make them smile, and she did it well.

Mary’s signature line was “Are You Listening?” Yes, Mary, we were, and we are.

Mary is survived by the love of her life, Edward (“Ed”) Ford Wasmund; her dog, Friday; her siblings, Noah (Karen) Sack, Charity (Paul Randall) Sack, and Alexander Sack; her stepfather, Paul McMullin, and her stepmother, Lenore Sack; her niece, Celeste Stout; and her nephews, Timothy Stout, Jacob Sack, Leo Sack, Nathan Sack, and Milo Sack. She is preceded in death by her mother, Edith Titterton Sack McMullin; her father, Martin Sack; and her dogs, Miller and Willie.

Mary will be celebrated at the place where she danced with friends, lifted artists up, and raised money for those in need over the years. Please join us at The 5 Spot in Nashville, Tennessee, on Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 3:00 – 5:00 PM CT for Mary’s celebration of life.
